For those that purchased their Dopplers before October 2021... The time has come, the updated apps are now live in the App store and Google Play!
We HIGHLY recommend updating to this new version ASAP as it’s a huge upgrade and will give you the following new features:
- Cloud connectivity - Will allow you to control your Doppler from anywhere quickly and easily
- Multiple Doppler support - If you have more than one Doppler, you’ll be able to control them all from one account and switch between them easily.
- Improved audio - The Doppler audio has been tuned and now includes multiple presets for enhanced sound.
- Weather on your Doppler - Quickly glance and see what the forecasted high for the day is.
- Set your Doppler color from your phone - You can choose any color you want for both your display and buttons.
- Set brightness from your phone - Set and adjust your brightness levels for your display and buttons.
- Blackout mode - Set the Doppler to be completely dark at night
- Different colors for day and night mode - White during the day, red at night? No problem!
- Granular volume controls - The lowest volume setting is now much quieter with more granular control
- Improved Bluetooth audio - Bluetooth audio now connects much better than before
- Lots of other bug fixes!
As we mentioned in previous updates, these upgrades are the upgrades we have been testing with our Beta customers and the feedback has been very positive. Thanks again Beta testers!
So how do you upgrade? The process is simple and straightforward, but please make sure to read the instructions carefully. We expect this process to take about 30 minutes to complete, but only requires about 5 minutes of your time.
First you’ll want to make sure your Doppler is powered on and connected to the internet. You can tell the Doppler is connected to the internet by triggering Alexa. If she responds, the Doppler is online. Another trick is to see if the day of the week light is lit. If there is a day of the week lit and it’s correct, it's online. If it’s not online, go to your Sandman app and re setup your Wifi.
Head over to our new upgrade site, upgrade.sandmandoppler.com and follow the instructions on the site. It will ask you to log into the site using the credentials you created when you first logged into the Doppler app. If you forgot your password, you can go ahead and reset your password from the site. Once you’re logged in you’ll be presented with all Dopplers on your account and some details about them. Go ahead and click the green upgrade button to proceed. On this screen you’ll see the hostname (serial number) of the Dopler, the software version, and a button to upgrade. If your Doppler is not online, you will not be able to move past this step. When you hit the upgrade button you’ll be asked to enter your email address to notify you when the Doppler upgrade is complete. The upgrade takes about 20 minutes and you don’t have to do anything other than pressing that upgrade button.
Now that your Doppler is upgrading to the new version you need to update your app. Please go to the App store or Google play on your phone and update to the latest version of the app. This should be version 1.3.9. Finally you’ll want to go to the Bluetooth settings on your phone and remove or forget all Dopplers in this menu.
During the over the air upgrade your Doppler will restart a couple of times and the screen will turn off for an extended amount of time, this is normal and do not interfere or unplug the Doppler during the update. Once you receive the email saying your Doppler is done updating, you’ll need to factory reset the Doppler. You do this by holding down the plus and minus buttons at the same time until you see 00:00 then press the green (forward) button.
The Doppler will now reset into a new mode, setup mode, that will walk you through setting up your Doppler again. This setup mode will get your Doppler onto the new cloud server and you shouldn’t ever have to do this again! If you have issues refer to our quickstart guide (more on this in the next paragraph)
New Manual and setup mode
Now that your Doppler is onto the newest cloud version, check out all the new features with our online manual that has been totally redone: manual.sandmandoppler.com
Along with the new manual there is a new quick start guide which should help you set up your Doppler quickly, easily and without any issues. While we have spent a lot of time on this new setup experience, and we think it’s fairly self explanatory, we hope that this quick start guide helps you with any questions and makes the process super smooth. Any and all suggestions about this setup mode and the quick start guide are welcome!
Once you get the Doppler set up, head over to the manual portion and check out all the details of this huge new release! We promise there are some tips and tricks that you’ll learn by reading the manual! We are open to all suggestions and feedback about this manual and the aforementioned quick start guide, they are a work in progress, please let us know! These manuals will be updated when we add new features or change things.
Legacy apps are live
If you don’t want to upgrade your Doppler to the cloud version (for whatever reason) you don’t have to! Just download the legacy version of the apps, which are now live on the App store and Google play. The legacy version will stay on the app stores indefinitely for those that don’t want their Doppler to be connected to the cloud, but it won’t receive any updates for the foreseeable future.
Support
We are hopeful this upgrade works smoothly for the majority of you, but for those that are having issues, we will try and have someone hanging out in a voice channel of the Discord (during business hours) for the next couple of days to make sure we can get them help as soon as possible. We are also running an exclusive promotion on the Discord for 20% off our Sandman Clocks merch for a limited time! Head over to the Discord to join: https://discord.gg/y9qN7N2DSh

Apple music support
Redesign of the Alarm screen
Making recurring alarms clearer and more powerful
Security and stability improvements
If the feature you’re waiting for isn’t in the above list, that doesn't mean we aren’t going to work on it, it’s just not in the immediate pipeline. Feel free to let us know in the comments below or the Discord what you want us to work on and we will certainly take it into consideration.
Thanks again for all your patience and support. We are finally happy with the state of the Doppler software and the smartphone apps (after a really long time) and now it’s time to start adding new features and selling thousands more Dopplers. To say we couldn’t have gotten to this point without you is an understatement!
Now go upgrade your Doppler! Thanks again!
